Hi
I have just joined this site, found it by accident. I was diagnosed with DCIS 3 weeks ago, I am 43 years old, a single mother of an 18 year old daughter and felt like the floor had given away under me.
After much internet research, realised that I was actually blessed to only have High grade DCIS as it is the most treatable cancer. I went for a lumpectomy last Monday, and to my horror, they found active cancer cells and am now due to go in tomorrow for a mastectomy. I have been fine, but today the realisation has hit and I am petrified. I do have support from a wonderful family and circle of friends,,,,,but none of them have been through this. I have been trying to keep a brave face for them too.
Just need some positive advice.........
Dee

HI Dee

Shame I know what you are going through and most of the others here as well. There is light at the end of the tunnel but you need to go through the process first. You need to take one day at a time and what I can tell you is that you did not find this site by accident you were sent here and we will give you the support you need. This site helped me deal with everything. Just remember that we are here for you at any time.

What area are you in?

Hi Dee,
Glad all went well. You are already over the first hurdle and from now it will be a lot easier. Also knowing that the cancer has not spread is great news.
Please keep us posted on what your oncologost decides for you.

Hi Dee, Sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time.

Your question about when the heavyness will lift from your heart really gave mine a jolt and brought tears to my eyes.

Time heals all wounds both phisically and emosionally. Just hang in there, I know it seems like this is never going to end but I assure you that the pain and emotions to get better with time.

Big hug! [smilie=2233.gif]
